Timbers Church was born on September 16, 2018 in Rogers, MN.
Everything has a beginning. Even the community of Rogers has a beginning. The story we were told is that the Great Northern Railroad bought an acre of land from John Rogers for a dollar. (Yes, one dollar! Granted, that was in the 1880s, so todays adjusted value is around $25.) It was on that acre of land they built a train depot which provided a convenient stop for the rich timber resources of the area to be shipped out.
That was the beginning of a now growing community.
The ‘Timbers Church’ name came out of this story and reminds us of a few important things.
First, it reminds us of the amazing community we started in.
Second, it reminds us to hold people and resources loosely so that we can send them out to make an impact around the world.
Third, it reminds us of the cross where Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we might have life and live it to the full.
